A new court of record for England and Wales was established in 2014 under s 31A of the Matrimonial and Family Proceedings Act 1984, as amended by s 17 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013. It was established to hear family law matters in place of the three tiers of court that previously did so (the county court, the family proceedings court, and the Family Division of the High Court). The Family Court is authorized to issue any order that would have been permissible in the course of the proceedings before the county court or the High Court. Nevertheless, the High Court has the authority to issue an order directing the transfer of proceedings from the Family Court to the High Court if it deems it appropriate. The Family Division of the High Court maintains exclusive jurisdiction over cases that involve its inherent jurisdiction or necessitate international activity.

Legal Terms - Family Intervention Tenancy
In the event that a possession order has been or could have been issued against a tenant for residential property owned by a council or housing association as a result of anti-social behavior, the landlord may, as of January 1, 2009, provide a Family Intervention Tenancy in accordance with the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008. These tenancies, which are typically granted for a period of 6 to 24 months, are not secure, have limited protection from eviction, and must be accompanied by a behavior support agreement. The tenant may be offered an introductory, starter, secure, or assured tenancy upon the expiration of the Family Intervention Tenancy if the tenancy is not determined.

Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Human Rights Act of 1998 ensure respect for family life. According to Marckx v Belgium (App no 6833/74) [1979] ECHR 2, the right to family life includes homosexual and gay couples (Oliari and others v Italy (App nos. 18766/11, 36030/11) ECtHR, 21 July 2015). This right is a *qualified right: the public interest can be used to justify interference with it, as defined by law. Article 12 of the Convention states that individuals have the freedom to marry and establish families.
