KembaraXtra – Legal Terms – Indenture
An indenture is a formal legal deed, traditionally used to create or transfer interests in land, such as leases or conveyances. Historically, indentures were written in duplicate on the same sheet of parchment and then cut apart with a jagged edge to allow the two parts to be matched for authenticity.
Although largely obsolete in modern practice, the term remains relevant in historical and legal contexts. It reflects the formalities that once governed property transactions and the evolution of documentary evidence in law.
