Inducement refers to the offering of an advantage or promise, particularly by a person in authority, to persuade someone to act in a certain way. In criminal law, inducements are especially relevant in relation to confessions.
A confession obtained through inducement may be excluded if it is deemed unreliable. In civil law, inducement is also relevant in misrepresentation, where a false statement encourages another party to enter a contract.
