Inducing breach of contract is a tort that occurs when one party intentionally persuades another to break an existing contract with a third party. The claimant must prove knowledge of the contract and an intention to cause its breach.
The tort protects contractual relationships from deliberate interference. However, it does not apply to negligent conduct, and certain defences, including justification, may limit liability in specific contexts such as trade disputes.
