KembaraXtra – Legal Terms – Interest in Expectancy

An interest in expectancy is a future interest in property that has not yet vested. It depends on the occurrence of a future event, such as the death of a current owner or beneficiary.

Because the interest is uncertain and not presently enforceable, it carries fewer legal protections than a vested interest. Nevertheless, it is recognized in law and may have tax or succession implications.
