Legal Terms - Accruer
An "accruer" is a term used to describe a provision in a will that deals with the distribution of assets when a specific condition or event fails to occur.
A gift accrues or is added to another gift that has a separate and distinct effect under the conditions specified in the will. An illustration can be found in a testamentary provision stating, "I bequeath the sum of £10,000 to my surviving brothers, to be divided equally if there is more than one." In the event that one brother dies before the testator, his portion will be combined or accumulated with the portions of the remaining brothers.
