Legal Terms - Administrative Tribunal
Adjudicatory body responsible for resolving disputes related to administrative matters.A statutory organization created by an Act of Parliament to resolve claims and disputes that arise in relation to the implementation of legislative programs, typically related to welfare or regulation. The tribunals operate independently from the regular courts, but their rulings can be reviewed by the judiciary through the use of the ultra vires doctrine and in instances where there are errors of law evident on the record. The Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 transferred the jurisdictions of several existing tribunals, such as the Lands Tribunal, the Immigration Appeal Tribunal, and the Special Commissioners of Income Tax, to two newly established organizations known as the First-tier Tribunal and the Upper Tribunal.
