Legal Terms - Advowson
An advowson is a legal right to nominate a clergyman for a position in the church.
An advowson is a non-physical property right that grants the owner (or patron) the authority to select the next person to fill a vacant position in a religious office. It can exist either independently of land ownership (gross) or be attached to land so that any owner can enjoy it (appendent). Typically, the right is commonly linked to the dominion of a manor.
