Legal Terms - Allegiance
Allegiance is the obligation to obey a ruler in exchange for their protection. It is required from all individuals who are citizens of that state and its territories, as well as from any non-citizen residing in the state, even enemy non-citizens who have been granted permission to be there, such as internees. An individual who is deemed by the British Nationality Act 1981 to not be a foreigner, but who possesses a primary citizenship granted by a country other than the United Kingdom, is likely subject to the same criteria as foreigners about loyalty.
