Legal Terms - Attachment of Earnings
An order issued pursuant to the Attachment of Earnings Act 1971, in which a court mandates the payment of debts resulting from a judgment.
Additionally, any outstanding amounts owed as a result of court rulings, such as spousal or child support, can be collected by deducting them directly from the debtor's income. Typically, payment is made in regular intervals, known as instalments, and it is the responsibility of the debtor's employer to make these payments to the court.
