Legal Terms – Auction Ring
An auction ring refers to a collective of purchasers who mutually agree not to engage in competition against each other during an auction, with the intention of acquiring items at prices lower than the prevailing open market rates.
The user's input is a single word: "value." The resulting profit is distributed among the members of the ring, or alternatively, a separate private auction is conducted among the members of the ring, where the item is sold to the highest bidder and the resulting profit is divided among the members. According to the Auctions (Bidding Agreements) Acts of 1927, it is illegal for a dealer to engage in auction collusion. If a seller discovers that one of the buyers is involved in such collusion, they have the right to cancel the sales contract. Bid-rigging is considered a criminal violation of UK competition law under the Enterprise Act 2002.
