Legal Terms - Benevolent Purposes
Purposes that serve the collective welfare but may not necessarily be considered philanthropic. They have a greater width than *philanthropic aims. If a trust is established with the intention of serving "charitable or benevolent" objectives, it will not be considered charitable, as determined in the case of Chichester Diocesan Fund and Board of Finance v Simpson [1944] AC 341 (HL).
