Widows, widowers, and civil partners may receive a benefit according to the circumstances outlined in the Welfare Reform and Pensions Act 1999. The package includes a one-time payment for grief, a widowed parent allowance (if applicable), and a bereavement allowance.Prior to 2001, the benefit was referred to as the widow's pension and exclusively accessible to females. Bereavement benefit has been replaced with Bereavement Support Payment for individuals who have become widows, widowers, or surviving civil partners on or after 6 April 2017.
