Legal Terms - Bomb Hoax
False report of a bomb
An act of deceit in which individuals are intentionally misled into believing that an explosion is very probable, resulting in potential harm or destruction.
Regarding the property. If a bomb hoax includes a demand, it may be considered as blackmail. It can also be seen as a public nuisance, a threat to harm property (which is a crime under the Criminal harm Act 1971), or wasting the police's time (which is an offense under the Criminal Law Act 1967). According to section 51 of the Criminal Law Act 1977, it is a specific legal offense to intentionally place or deliver an object in a way that makes someone believe it is likely to explode and cause harm. This offense carries a maximum punishment of seven years imprisonment and/or a fine. It is also illegal to fraudulently inform someone that a bomb has been planted in a specific location or that another device is likely to detonate.
