Legal Terms -carriage of goods by air
Air transportation of products, typically governed by a contractual agreement between the sender and a carrier. Various international treaties have addressed the issue of international transportation, including the Warsaw Convention of 1929, The Hague Convention of 1955, the Guadalajara Convention of 1961, the Guatemala Convention of 1971, and the Montreal Convention of 1975. The UK is a signatory to several Conventions, which have been implemented by the Carriage by Air Acts of 1932, 1961, and 1962, as well as the Carriage by Air and Road Act of 1979 (partially not yet in effect). The topics addressed in this field include the characteristics and boundaries of the carrier's legal responsibility, the individuals or entities eligible to initiate legal action or be subject to legal action, the authority to halt transportation during transit, the procedures for documenting air transportation, and the deadlines for filing complaints.
Specific regulations are in place if the commodities are hazardous. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code are two international accords that govern the transportation of hazardous materials by air and sea.
