Legal Terms – Coercion
Coercion is the name of a former defense that was exclusive to married women who had broken the law (apart from murder or treason) while their husbands were there and exerting pressure on them. 2017 saw the elimination of the defense of marital compulsion; instead, women who are coerced into committing a crime by their husbands must now depend on the defense of *duress.
