Legal Terms - comity . (comitas gentium)
Courtesies or friendly gestures between states, or among others, are given without acknowledging a legal duty to do so. The idea of sovereign equality between states serves as the foundation for comity, which is reciprocal in nature. Such behaviors may eventually become established as *customary international law via time and widespread use, but this necessitates that they first gain the status of binding or compelling.
