A convention ratified by EU member states in 1990; its objective was to ascertain the member state accountable for evaluating an asylum application from a non-EU national and, more broadly, to mitigate the misuse of the asylum system. Typically, any claim must be addressed by the state through which the asylum claimant initially entered the EU.
