. In international law, the cessation by a state of an alien's legal entry and right to reside. This is sometimes predicated on the premise that the alien is deemed unwanted or a menace to the state. Reasons for expulsion have encompassed the following: conviction of a crime endangering public security; vagrancy; immorality; illness; espionage and political machinations; defiance of the law; and desecration of the national flag.
