Legal Terms – family
A collection of individuals who are linked by a strong bond. A family is frequently restricted to relationships based on blood, marriage, civil partnership, or adoption for legal purposes. However, there are instances in which statute explicitly encompasses other individuals, such as cohabitants, for social security purposes. The courts have interpreted the term "family" to encompass unmarried couples of any gender who reside as spouses in permanent and secure relationships.
