An individual who is responsible for the care of a foster infant. Foster parenthood does not automatically grant parental responsibility, and foster parents are in a comparable position to any other social parent unless legal measures are implemented to obtain it. However, all foster parents are subject to legal controls, in contrast to other de facto guardians. *Private foster parents and *local authority foster parents are distinct.
