A response in which all claims in the other party's pleading are refuted. It is no longer permissible in civil proceedings. Under Part 16 of the *Civil Procedure Rules, each allegation must be explicitly admitted or denied. In criminal proceedings, the defendant may assert the general issue by entering a plea of *not guilty.
