According to the Companies Act 2006, a meeting of company members that is not an annual general meeting. This assembly was previously referred to as an extraordinary general meeting. The Companies Act mandates that sufficient notice be provided for a general meeting, either in physical format, electronic format, or via a website (s 308–09). A private firm is not required to conduct a general meeting. Section 303 of the Act permits 10% of members of a private business to summon a general meeting, or 5% if more than 12 months have passed since the last general meeting. Under the 2006 Act, numerous decisions that formerly required a general meeting of a private business can now be executed via written resolution.
