An individual formally appointed to care for a child’s welfare and interests after the death of the parents. Appointment may be made by the court during family proceedings or privately by a parent with parental responsibility under the Children Act 1989, section 5. Guardianship automatically confers parental responsibility and can be created simply in writing, signed, and dated.
