Legal Terms-Hamburg Rules

An updated framework (1978) for international carriage of goods by sea, replacing the Hague Rules.
The Hamburg Rules sought to create fairer liability standards for carriers and shippers, reducing the historically privileged position of carriers.
Ratified by 35 countries, they apply to less than 5% of world maritime trade but significantly influenced later conventions, such as the Rotterdam Rules (2008)
