Legal Terms-Holiday Pay
Definition:
The statutory entitlement of employees to paid annual leave under the Working Time Regulations 1998 (as amended).
Entitlement:
As of 2020, every worker in the UK is entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday per year, with pro-rata rights for part-time staff.
Holiday pay must be based on the worker’s average earnings, including overtime and regular bonuses.
Importance:
Employers who deny holiday pay may face legal action before an employment tribunal. Regulations ensure that workers cannot be forced to forgo their right to rest, promoting workplace health and safety
