Legal Terms - The Amsterdam Treaty
The EU treaty, agreed in Amsterdam in 1997 and in force since 1 May 1999, made amendments to the articles of the Treaty of Rome.
The European Community Treaty and the Maastricht Treaty, often known as the Treaty on European Union. The Amsterdam Treaty enhanced the authority of the European Parliament by expanding the *codecision process to all domains governed by qualified majority vote. Additionally, it facilitated the integration of the *Social Chapter into the Treaty of Rome.
