Avoid actions that may take another person’s life.
Islamic Penalties
- Killing an innocent person is a major sin.
- The punishment for intentional murder is death penalty (qisās), unless forgiven by the victim’s family.
Why Qisās Saves Lives
- Punishing a murderer strongly discourages others from killing.
- Even though one life is taken (the killer), many other lives are saved → keeps society safe.
Ruling Guidelines
- Saving a person’s life is required.
- BUT saving one life should not cause another life to be lost.
- Example: Saving a drowning person is mandatory, but not if it risks killing another person.
