• Viral encephalitis (usually resulting from herpes simplex) • Parasitic infections: toxoplasmosis, echinococcosis, cysticercosis • Other parameningeal infections: subdural empyema, epidural abscess, thrombophlebitis of the major dural venous sinuses and cortical veins • Mycotic aneurysms with leakage • Metastatic or primary brain tumors • Embolic strokes in patients with bacterial endocarditis • Chronic subdural hematoma • Cerebral infarction • Central nervous system (CNS) vasculitis • Acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis
