Dolphins naturally contract L loboi. Hard, painless nodules (keloids) on the face, ears, and upper extremities are a hallmark of lobomycosis. Lesions of mycetoma and chromoblastomycosis are comparable to those of lobstermycosis. Upon direct microscopic inspection of removed tissue in a KOH solution, lengthy diagnostic chains of yeast cells are visible. For lobomycosis, surgical excision is curative.
