​ The abdomen is the region of the body below the chest (thorax), separated by the diaphragm. It contains organs involved in digestion, such as the stomach, liver, and intestines, as well as organs of excretion including the kidneys and bladder; in females it also houses the ovaries and uterus. Clinically, it is divided into four quadrants: right upper (RUQ), right lower (RLQ), left upper (LUQ), and left lower (LLQ). The term abdominal refers to anything related to this region.
