Activin is a protein complex involved in regulating the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in the body. It is produced in several tissues and acts primarily on the pituitary gland to increase both the synthesis and secretion of FSH. Activin is closely related to another regulatory protein known as inhibin. While activin stimulates the production of FSH, inhibin acts in the opposite way by reducing its synthesis and release.
