Adalimumab is a medication classified as a cytokine inhibitor, specifically targeting tumour necrosis factor (TNF). It is used in the treatment of several chronic inflammatory conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis.

By blocking TNF, adalimumab reduces inflammation and helps control disease symptoms. However, because it suppresses part of the immune system, it can increase the risk of infections. Patients receiving this treatment require careful monitoring. The drug is commonly known by the trade name Humira.
