Pharmacology - Amlodipine
Blood pressure can be lowered by dilatation of the arteries. Both amlodipine and nifedipine open up vessels that have arterial resistance. It is primarily the heart that verapamil affects, and it slows the heart rate. Mode of Action Inhibiting calcium infusion and, consequently, contraction in vascular smooth muscle can be accomplished by blocking voltage-gated calcium channels. Orally administered. Compared to nifedipine, amlodipine has a half-life of 35 hours. Verapamil undergoes first pass metabolism , and its half-life is approximately four hours. Use in clinical settings Angina pectoris with hypertension of the heart. Adverse Effects Because of its vasodilatation properties, nifedipine and amlodipine might cause reflex tachycardia, hypotension, and headaches. Grapefruit juice amplifies the effects of the substance.
