​The bactericidal action of benzoylpenicillin is to prevent the bacteria from dividing by interfering with their cell wall production.

Action Technique
Connects with the enzyme responsible for attaching the peptide chain of the freshly synthesized "block" to the backbone of the peptidoglycan cell wall and blocks its activity.Bacterial beta-lactamases render it inactive.

If we have i.m. or i.v. Does not pass the blood-brain barrier unless the meninges are inflamed, however it does enter all bodily fluids and crosses the placenta. Wasted (probenecid prevents its excretion). Phenoxymethyl penicillin, which is less effective, can be taken orally.

Use in Clinical Settings
 The following infections can occur: streptococcal, gonococcal, meningococcal; anthrax, diphtheria, gas gangrene.

Some pneumococci, meningococci, and gonococci have reduced sensitivity, while staphylococci are typically resistant (primarily because they manufacture beta-lactamase).

Adverse Effects
Anaphylaxis, rashes, urticaria, fever, swelling of the blood vessels, arthralgia, and other hypersensitive reactions).
