Pharmacology - Calcitonin
The actions of calcitonin
Both serum calcium levels and bone resorption are reduced as a result of this.

Method of Operation
In addition to reducing the reabsorption of calcium and phosphate in the kidney, it also inhibits bone resorption by attaching to a particular receptor on osteoclasts, which consequently prevents osteoclasts from performing their function.

Applied using the nasal spray, subcutaneous injection, or intramuscular injection. The plasma half-life is between four and twelve minutes, and the effect lasts for several hours.

Use in Clinical Settings
These include hypercalcemia, Paget's disease, and the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Adverse Effects
GIT difficulties, facial flushing, taste changes, dizziness, and muscle soreness are all symptoms that may be experienced.
