Pharmacology - Carbimazole
The action of carbimazole
minimizes the amount of thyroid hormone that is produced gradually, which in turn minimizes the signs and symptoms of thyrotoxicosis.

Method of Operation
The production of thyroid hormones is decreased as a result of the inhibition of thyroperoxidase, which is ordinarily responsible for iodating tyrosyl residues in thyroglobulin in order to produce the precursors of T3 and T4.

Orally administered. With a plasma half-life ranging from 6 to 15 hours, carbimazole is transformed to methimazole.

In clinical settings, hyperthyroidism is used to regulate the disease before to surgical intervention.

Adverse Effects
Joint aches, rashes, and agranulocytosis are extremely uncommon, with the prevalence ranging from 0.1 to 1.2%.

Due to the fact that T4 has a lengthy half-life, the clinical response may take several weeks to manifest. This is because the hormone stores in the thyroid need to be depleted.
