Pharmacology - Cisplatin
Creates a compound that reacts with DNA, leading to denaturation and cross-linking between individual strands. Given by i.v. infusion. Offered to patients who are not in the hospital. Carboplatin is the chosen treatment for ovarian cancer since it is more myelosuppressive than other chemo drugs while having less severe side effects. Application in Clinical Practice Cancers of testes, ovaries, cervix, bladder, lung and head & neck. Potential Side Effects Hypomagnesemia, peripheral neuropathy, myelosuppression, severe nausea and vomiting, nephrotoxicity, and ototoxicity are some of the side effects.
