Pharmacology - Diloxanide
Diloxanide combats Entamoeba histolytica in its non-motile forms. Administered orally, intravenously, or intrarectally; half-life is seven hours. Application in Clinical Practice Following metronidazole treatment, for amoebic dysentery; for asymptomatic cyst carriers Potential Side Effects GIT disturbances; anorexia. Ataxia, myalgia, hepatitis, and blood dyscrasias are rare side effects. Should not be consumed with alcohol as it can lead to disulent responses.
