Pharmacology - Ethinylestradiol and Norethisterone
The action of ethinylestradiol and norethisterone
The avoidance of pregnancy risks.

The Mode of Operation
Through its ability to limit the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) from the anterior pituitary, ethinylestradiol is able to suppress the development of the ovarian follicle. Through its ability to block the release of luteinizing hormone (LH), norethisterone is able to prevent ovulation. Because of their combined presence, the endometrium is rendered inappropriate for the implantation of the ovum.

Orally administered.

Adverse Effects
Infrequent, but can result in weight gain, flushing, mood changes, dizziness, and occasionally acne or skin pigmentation, as well as a momentary increase in blood pressure. There is a possibility of thromboembolism.
