​Pharmacology -  Flucytosine
is changed into the antimetabolite 5-fluorouracil in fungal cells (but not in human cells), which prevents DNA synthesis by blocking thymidylate synthetase.administered orally, but also by intravenous infusion. Plasma half-life ~4h.

Application in Clinical Practice
 Systemic candidiasis and cryptococcal meningitis are examples of systemic fungal and yeast infections.

Negative Results
GIT disturbances; rashes. Headaches, disorientation, blood dyscrasias, and cardiotoxicity are less frequent. As resistance may develop, amphotericin is typically administered in addition.
