​Pharmacology - Fludrocortisone 
Through its action on the distal renal tubule, fludrocortisone is able to promote the reabsorption of sodium ions as well as the excretion of potassium and hydrogen ions.

Method of Operation 
Within the kidney, MCs interact with intracellular receptors, which in turn influence the transcription of particular genes. This interaction results in an increase in the number of Na+ channels and an increase in the number of Na+ pumps (P). Orally administered.

Use in Clinical Settings 
Used for replacement therapy in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, in conjunction with glucocorticoids.

Adverse Effects
The risk of hypokalemia is low; nevertheless, it can be exacerbated by the use of thiazides and loop diuretics.
