Pharmacology - Flumazenil
In contrast to benzodiazepines and medicines that are similar to zolpidem, flumazenil has an activity that is antagonistic. Method of Operation The benzodiazepine binding site on the GABAA receptor is subject to competitive binding. Intravenously administered. Benzodiazepines with a longer half-life will require repeated dosages because of their short half-life, which is between one and two hours. Use in Clinical Settings An overdose of benzodiazepines or zolpidem is treated with this medication. Allergies and Reactions Symptoms include anxiety, palpitations, and insomnia. Convulsions are occurring.
