​Pharmacology - Flupentixol 
The action of flupentixol 
It is antipsychotic. Antidepressant action (similar to that of tricyclics).

Method of Operation 
Dopamine D2 receptors in the mesolimbic and mesocortical pathways are subject to competitive antagonism.
In spite of the fact that receptor block occurs immediately, clinical benefits take longer to manifest, which suggests that more sophisticated changes in neurotransmission take place. Although it is effective when taken orally, it is often administered as an intramuscular depot formulation. 19–39 hours is the half life.

Use in Clinical Settings 
Both schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions are included. It is a bipolar disorder. There is depression.

Adverse Effects
E.P.S. Insufficiency of prolactin. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome has been identified.
