Method of Operation
Binding to synaptic vesicle protein SV2A is assumed to be the cause of activity; however, the mechanism by which this alters the release of neurotransmitters (such as glutamate) has not been determined.Oral admin. Mostly eliminated in its original form. Seven hours is the half life.
Use in Clinical Settings
When treating partial seizures, as a supplement to other anticonvulsants that are already being used.
Allergies and Reactions
Sedation, vertigo, and paraesthesia are all symptoms. Few interactions between drugs.
