The action of lubiprostone
Increases the amount of fluid that is present in the gut, which helps in the movement of the digestive tract.
Method of Operation
The apical membrane of the gastrointestinal epithelium is activated, which results in the activation of the CIC-2 chloride channel.
The increased secretion of chloride ion is accompanied by water, which results in an increase in the amount of fluid that is found inside the lumen.
