​Pharmacology - Mematine 
Memantine action is effective in alleviating the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Method of Operation 
NMDA receptors, which are open channels, are blocked. Inhibits the entry of sodium ions and, more significantly, calcium ions into the cell, hence lowering the level of glutamate excitotoxicity. The glutamatergic transmission from the normal state continues.
 orally taken. Half life  for 60–80 hours.

Use in Clinical Settings 
Alzheimer's disease that ranges from moderate to severe. Symptomatic improvement of the cognitive and memory impairment caused by the disease is the only benefit from this treatment. There is no impact on the process of degeneration. Combination therapy with anticholinesterases that operate on the central nervous system is possible.

Adverse Effects
In general, it is well tolerated. Some of the symptoms include agitation, confusion, dizziness, sleepiness, headache, insomnia, and hallucinations.
