Pharmacology - Misoprostol
Helps the healing process of stomach ulcers. Reduces the ulcer-causing effects of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Method of Operation For the purpose of inhibiting acid secretion, prostaglandin receptors of the EP3 subtype are activated. Effects attributable to the suppression of adenylate cyclase that is mediated by the Gi. In addition, it encourages the production of mucus and bicarbonate. Oral absorption is very good. The free acid, which is the active moiety, is produced through rapid hydrolysis. Thirty to forty minutes is the half life. Use in Clinical Settings ulcers of the stomach, particularly those that are brought on by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and for which the NSAIDs cannot be stopped. Abortifacient agent? Adverse Effects stomach pains and diarrhea are symptoms. As a result of the contractile influence it has on the uterus, it should be avoided during pregnancy.
