Oseltamivir works by stopping viruses from replicating themselves. How it works Stops neuraminidase from working, which is needed for virion release. Given by mouth within 48 hours of the start of symptoms for post-exposure prevention. Zanamivir is given by mouth. Use in Medicine Protection against and treatment of influenza viruses A and B illnesses. Bad Side Effects Headaches, nausea, rashes, and very rarely hepatitis can happen.
