Actions Paralysis of skeletal muscle Method of Operation Reversible competitive antagonism has been observed at nicotinic receptors of the muscle type. The binding of acetylcholine to the receptors in the end-plate of the muscle is inhibited. It is not possible for the end-plate potential to reach the threshold threshold necessary for the start and propagation of the action potential along the muscle fiber. Anticholinesterase enzymes perform the opposite action. Absorption, distribution, and elimination methods intravenously administered. Half-life of two to three hours. Renal failure is characterized by a significant increase in the length of renal excretion. Use in clinical settings In general anesthesia, it helps with tracheal intubation, it relaxes the muscles for general surgery, and it helps with mechanical ventilation. Adverse effects It is a muscarinic antagonist activity that causes tachycardia. Although tubocurarine is the prototypical non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocker, it is now used infrequently since it is associated with a greater number of adverse effects, such as bronchoconstriction brought on by the release of histamine.
